Botanical Treasures in Northern California – What's at Stake?

January 11-13, 2010
California State University Chico
Bell Memorial Union Auditorium

Northern California Botanists will be hosting their 3rd symposium at California State University, Chico on January 11-13, 2010.

The 2010 Symposium will attract hundreds of professional botanists, scholars, plant biologists, and students who will participate in a full schedule of peer-led sessions, poster presentations, and networking opportunities.

Session topics will focus on several emerging issues in the field, including new botanical discoveries, conservation genetics, invasive species, pollination, herbivory, and mentoring new botanists, all emphasizing the northern part of California. The symposium will consist of two days of talks on January 11 and 12 with more than 30 presentations by federal and state government agencies, the leading environmental consulting firms in the region, academic institutions and non-profit organizations dedicated to improving our natural resources.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Bruce Baldwin, of the University of California at Berkeley, will present a talk on “Impact and Consequences of Molecular Taxonomy to Botanical Conservation” on Monday, January 11, during the annual Symposium Dinner.

Four post-conference workshops are scheduled for Wednesday, January 13 and will focus on botany for teachers, Sacramento River floodplain restoration, resources for beginning professional botanists, and using the updated Manual of California Vegetation.
